Academic Year Program: Community of Learning

Overview During the Fall of 2002 SSUI piloted an academic year Community of Learning. The services that were offered included one-to-one personal coaching, tutorials and special offers. Based on the student response these services are now a standard fall and spring offering at no cost to the student. For more information email the SSUI office at ssui@syr.edu or call 443-1095. If you wish to become a part of the Community of Learning, you may apply online or stop by our office for an application. Academic Year The Student SUccess Initiative has been a successful summer residential program for students who wished to be part of a learning community where the focus has been on academic achievement. During the summer, SSUI has offered students the opportunity to take up to eight credits per summer session as well as have access to facilitated study groups and personal coaching to support their efforts at success. Many students have shared with us that the summer program offers a great structure but that it's tough to keep the strategies and skills going in the fall when the environment has changed. The Community of Learning hopes to build the bridge between the summer and the academic year in order to help students successfully navigate the transition. Students who participate in the academic year program will be afforded the academic support as well as personal coaching. In addition, there will be opportunities throughout the semester to obtain tickets to events in the Syracuse area.
