Eligibility Criteria
 

School of Architecture
An Architecture student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:

Class Standing:

First-year, Sophomore or Junior
GPA Range: Cumulative average of 2.5
Other Criteria: Failure to make sufficient progress toward degree
Exceptions:None


College of Arts and Sciences
A College of Arts and Sciences student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:
Class Standing: First-year, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
GPA range: Cumulative or semester of less than 2.5
Or

A semester of fewer than 10 credits earned
Exceptions: If you do not fit into these categories you must make an appointment to meet with Stephanie Reynolds, Director SSUI to discuss your particular situation. If a determination is made that you would benefit from participation in SSUI, the rationale will be recorded in the SSUI application booklet.


School of Education
An Education student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:

Class Standing:

First-year, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
GPA Range: 2.8 or below-cumulative requirement is dependent upon program
Other Criteria: None
Exceptions: Exceptions might be made on a individual basis throuhg the School of Education


L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science
An Engineering and Computer Science student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:

Class Standing:

First-year, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
GPA Range: Cumulative average below 2.75 or semester GPA below 2.0.
Students on academic probation.
Other Criteria: Deficiency in credits or students who have failed to make sufficient progress toward degree.
Exceptions:Consideration will be given to seniors, who are at risk for completing the credit requirements for graduation in May or August, but who have achieved the GPA requirements. First-year students earning less than a "C" in any core course. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact Associate Dean Can Isik or Maria Marceau in the Dean's office, 223 Link Hall.


College of Human Services and Health Professions
A Human Services and Health Professions student must express his/her interest in enrolling in SSUI by meeting with Felicia Proud, Director of Student Services. Each student who is pursuing an interest in enrolling in SSUI must also meet the following criteria:
Class Standing: First-year, Sophomore Junior or Senior
GPA Range: variable
Other Criteria:
- Recommendation of Academic Advisor
- Persistent difficulty in meeting course requirements
- Numerous WDs in essential classes
- Students desire to improve academic performance
- Too few credits to progress to next level of sequential courses
- Failure of required nursing course, or other foundation courses.
- Documented learning problems for which SSUI has effective strategies.
Exceptions: If you do not fit into these categories, you must make an appointment to meet with an SSUI staff member to discuss your situation. If a determination is made that the program may be a good match for your needs, you must then make an appointment to meet with Felicia Proud, Director of Student Services. Admission will be considered at the discretion of the Assistant Dean and SSUI.


School of Information Studies
A College of Information Studies student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria and meets with Emileen Butler, Academic Counselor to discuss your interest.
Class Standing: First-year, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
GPA Range: variable; depends on class standing
Other Criteria: One or more of the following:
- Student is not achieving reasonable self-identified academic goals
- Academic probation student
- Unsatisfactory mid-semester report
Exceptions: If you do not fit into these categories you must meet with your school representative, Elaine Morgan, Academic Counselor, and the SSUI staff to determine eligibility. Admission will be considered at the discretion of your school's representative and SSUI, on a space available basis as determined by SSUI


School of Management
All School of Management students must meet with your school representative, Hanna Richardson, Assistant Dean of Student Services, to discuss your interest. Basic criteria include:
GPA Range: Cumulative less than 2.5 or Semester less than 2.0
Other Criteria: One or more of the following:
- Academic probation student
- About to be academically suspended
- Previously academically suspended
- Significant problem with sequencing issues in required courses
Exceptions:Exceptions to the criteria will only be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of the Assistant Dean of Student Services or School’s Academic Review Committee.

Participation is not guaranteed to students when they meet the criteria. A personal interview will be required to ensure that students are aware of and willing to comply with program requirements.


S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications
All Public Communications student must express their interest in SSUI by talking with Rosanna Grassi, Associate Dean and may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:
Class Standing: First-year
GPA Range: 2.5 or below
Other Criteria: None
Exceptions:Exceptions might be made for other students on a case-by-case basis through the Newhouse Academic Standards Committee.


University College
A University College student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:
Class Standing: First-year, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
GPA Range: 2.5 or below
Other Criteria:
- Special Students (please consult with your UC advisor)
- Dependency Student Admits
- Main campus transfers with GPA below 2.0 (UC funded)
- UC HEOP students needing extra support (UC funded)
Exceptions:None


College of Visual and Performing Arts
A College of Visual and Performing Arts student may pursue an interest in enrolling in SSUI if he or she meets the following criteria:
Class Standing: First-year, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
GPA Range: Cumulative of less than 2.3
Spring 2005 semester of less than 2.5
Exceptions: RARE- Some exceptions to the criteria may be made contingent upon individual need and on space availability. Please meet with the Assistant Dean of Student Services, Martha Sutter, to determine your eligibility.
