ECS Majors
As part of the PRIDE (Programs Rooted in Developing Excellence) Program ECS offers:

  • STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) Program - This program is intended to help students address academic competence through attention to the non-academic factors that contribute to academic success. We offer services in study skills, time management, career planning, stress management and other personal issues. STAR is open to ECS students only.

  • AEW (Academic Excellence Workshop) Program - This is a 1 credit pass/fail course (ECS 105) which supplements a student's enrollment in one of several targeted courses (MAT 194, 295, 296, 397, ECS 221 and 222). Students are given problems above and beyond what takes place in the course lecture to help them master the subject versus mere memorization of the material. These small highly interactive workshops are lead by a trained undergraduates ECS facilitator. AEWs are open to non-ECS students on a space available basis.

  • Link-Up - Is a series of free study circles held in Link Hall in conjunction with CSTEP (Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program) and the College of ECS. These sessions focus on key first/second-year level courses such as MAT 194, 295, 296, 397, CHE 106, 116, PHY 211 and 212. These sessions are open to both CSTEP and ECS Students.

  • ECS Study Circles - Free study circles are established in ECS as the course demand requires. These sessions are lead by undergraduate moderators who academically excelled in the course. Currently sessions are available for MAT 331, 485 and ELE 231.

  • Tutor Referrals - A database of ECS students that have expressed an interest in tutoring is kept. Only students that have achieved a course grade of "B" or higher and an overall GPA of 2.85 are allowed to tutor other students. Students looking for tutors in specific courses are given the name of prospective tutors and then coordinate the meetings on their own.

  • Student Organizations - Many of our professional organizations offer tutoring, study circles, and academic workshops to their members and in some instances to the entire SU Community.
SOM Majors
For the Accounting 204 & 252 courses, Beta Alpha Psi offers free tutoring. Information is readily available throughout the School of Management Building. Specific emails are posted behind the food cart.
